This kit, is designed for use on the Rover SD1 2300 and 2600 engines, to provide a solution to the now unavailable Rosdiwatch upgrade to the better Rosdiman version had the means of provide a backup oil supply. If you own one of these cars you will know what this device is for? Designed to replace the well-known Trevor Buxton's Rosdiman upgrade kit. Both the Rosdiwatch and Rosdiman have been out of production for some time.
This kit differs in appearance from the original Rosdiman upgrade but will perform the same function of supplying a reserve oil supply the camshaft area should the need arise?
What is the cause of the camshaft problems? Poor servicing is one factor, what is known? the engine a Triumph design, was a very advanced design for the period, particularly the valve gear operation. The lubrication system needed further development by Triumph's, but was halted by BL, who wanted the engine to go into full production. One of the area’s identified needing further work was the camshaft and valve gear lubrication.
In the original design more oil was feed to the camshaft and valve gear than actually needed? This resulted in unacceptable high oil consumption, caused by excess oil running down the valve guides.
To cure the problem the now infamous pressure restrictor/non return valve was added to the cylinder head. If this became block as it is know to do i.e. high mileage or reasons listed above. There is no warning of impending doom when the camshaft does seize? this will cause the cam belt to snap the next thing that happens does the damage, as the pistons hit the now stationery valves causing major and in some cases total engine damage.
The Rosdiwatch designed by Trevor Buxton was in response to having the camshaft seize on his own 2300, Trevor a Hydraulics engineer, finding other has also suffer the same fate came up with the well know Rosdiwatch device. Designed to monitor the camshaft oil supply and trigger a warning light in the car in the event of loss of oil pressure to the camshaft area. You then had to stop quickly and arrange recovery as continuing could cause major or total engine damage?
Details of the Kit.
The kit will modifier your basic Rosdiwatch to have the same function as the Rosdiman i.e. a reserve oil supply manually selected to provide vital oil flow to the camshaft area. Allowing driving to continue safely.
There are four parts to the kit as follows: 1, Adapter to connect to the engine oil supply. 2, Valve assembly to control the reserve oil supply. 3, Connector for the Rosdiwatch fitted to your engine. 4, Oil supply link pipe, this is preformed and terminated.
